13,000 Human Resources Professionals from around the world gathered in Chicago to find a remedy for what ails organizations everywhere: Employee turnover. After wooing and landing stellar job candidates and investing in their costly training…they leave. So, HR Managers are hungry for “how to keep ‘em” strategies, which turn out to be rather simple: Communicate superbly, make employees feel recognized and valued, and foster a culture of innovation and creativity. The Society of Human Resource Managers, SHRM, asked me to present my newest keynote, What Are We Waiting For? Life Is Far Too Short! for their annual convention at massive McCormick Place in the Windy City. Communication strategies include clear, honest, direct and positive verbiage. On the Frankincense trail – A few months back, during the holidays, remember hearing those carols referring to Frankincense and Myrrh? But, what are they? I’ve recently returned from a trek through the Middle East on “The Frankincense Trail” where I visited the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, in what’s currently the Kingdom of Jordan. UNESCO has recognized the archaeological remains as a “World Heritage Site.” It flourished 2000 years ago because it dominated the trading routes for Frankincense. Still not sure what it is? Let me know of your interest, and I’ll gladly mail you some of the dried resin used as incense with a scent the Gods were believed to favor. I’ll even enclose a DVD of my travels in Arabia as my gift to you.
